Cheloninae Foerster, 1863 is a moderately large subfamily of the family Braconidae(Insecta:Hymenoptera) with almost 1 500 described species worldwide and is currently divided into four tribes: Adeliini Viereck,1918;Chelonini Foerster,1863;Odontosphaeropygini Zettel,1990;Phanerotomini Baker,1926[1-2].

Siniphanerotomellawas erected by He, Chen et van Achterberg (1994) to includeS.fanjingshanaHe,Chen et van Achterberg, 1994, from southwestern China (Guizhou). It is a small genus with only two species currently named (S.fanjingshanaHe, Chen et van Achterberg, 1994 andS.disparclypeolusJi et Chen, 2003) and both only known from Oriental China[2-4].Siniphanerotomellabelongs to the tribe Phanerotomini because of its metasoma with two complete transverse sutures, and it is the only genus without vein 1-SR+M of the fore wing in this tribe. The biology of this genus is still unknown[2-3].

During the study of the Chinese Cheloninae, we discovered another new species,S.chengjiaaniTang et Chen, sp. nov., from Guangdong (South China). Here this new species is described and illustrated. A key to species of the genusSiniphanerotomellais also given.

This study is based on the specimens preserved in the Parasitic Hymenoptera Collection of Institute of Insect Sciences, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou,China(ZJUH).

The terminology and measurements used follow VAN ACHTERBERG[5-6]. The following abbreviations are used: postocellar line, POL; ocular-ocellar line,OOL, measured from ocellus directly to eye; maximum diameter of lateral ocellus, OD. All descriptions and measurements were made under a Zeiss Stemi 2000-C microscope (Germany); figures were made by a Keyence VHX-2000 digital microscope (Japan). Type specimens are deposited in the ZJUH.
